Cassidy's Word Game: Thailand

This is pretty difficult since Thai has its own beautiful, flowing alphabet, and many words sound similar except for the rise or fall of a single syllable.

Cassidy had a great time interviewing people to find her vocabulary words, and people were delighted to share.

The words we use the most are:

Sawadi (pronounced Sa-wah-dee)—hello, goodby

Khop khun (pronounced cap coon)—thank you (this word should be followed by the word "ka" if you are female, "kap" if you are male)

Pumpoi (pronounced pum-poy)—plump

Sui (pronounced soo-way)—beautiful

Moo (with a high tone on the first "o")—pig

Gop—frog

Han (low tone on the "a")—goose

Kai (pronounced keye)—chicken

Gai (pronounced "guy")—egg

(Which came first? The kai or the gai?)

Gradhai (pronounced "gradee")—rabbit

Ma (pronounced with a high tone on the "a")—horse

Hok (pronounced "whuke")—bird

Bhlaloma (pronounced "blah luma")—dolphin

Pang pi—too expensive!

Khoo raka a thai—Can I have a Thai discount?

Khoo thoot—sorry, or excuse me

By laiaw (pronounced "bi li ow")—go away!
